Star Of The Orient

Star of The Orient

[Introduction]

[Music plays and stars come running in a circle and then stand in a line. ]

[Screen lights up. ‘You have one new message]

[All the stars move aside].

[Message: There is a ship sailing in the nile. It is lost. You have to shine your light and show the way to the sailor].

Star 1: I’m soooo excited. I want to show the way to the ship.

Star 2: [disgruntled]. You always want the best jobs.

Star 1: But I love the sea and the ships and the way they sail on the water. I hate when they get lost and then they sink. I can’t bear that. Oh please, let me do this job!!!

Star 2: Alright….go on and shine your bright light and show the ship the way.

Star 7: Do you think that I could go next time?and shine my light?

Star 2: No star of the orient. You have done your bit several times. These days we need stars with a bright light. Maybe you can show your light to some lost people here and there.

Orient star: But have I not been good?

Star 2: Oh you are very very good. But you don’t shine brightly enough. Remember when you had to help that sheep out of the brambles? And you couldn’t. You remember what happened then? Abraham caught it and offered it as sacrifice. Poor sheep.

Orient Star: Oh yes..that is true. But then. Its because of that that his son was saved. So, isn’t that a good thing that happened.

Star 2: Lets not argue any further. Let’s see where star 1 has reached.

[ look to the screen] [ Image on screen]

All stars: Yaay! The ship is safe. [song] this little light of mine…]

[ 1 new message][ all look up]

[An Israelite baby is left in a basket in the river. But his life is in danger from the pharoah. Help some Egyptian find the baby.]

Star 3: I can do this!!! I am very very clever. I can twinkle when I want and I can stop when I want. Shall I do this job?

Star 2: Yes. Ofcourse. And please be very very careful. An entire civilization depends upon this baby… God be with you.

Orient star: This was a really tough job. But I’m sure star 3 will do a great job. She is so brilliant.

Star 2: That she is…and very wise too. One requires these qualities to be great.

Orient star: I wonder if the baby is alright.

[screen]

All stars: AAAAH. The baby is safe and the princess is so kind. Finally the baby will grow up to be a wise and good man.

[message] [Shine on the brambles and show the sheep that is caught in them to Abraham]

Star 4: May I do this job? I want this honour of meeting Abraham, the father of Isaac. And if this generation has to grow, we must save Isaac. Please let me shine my helping light. I will definitely do this job and help save that little boy.

Star 2: Yes, I know you will. And you will definitely do an amazing feat. Go ahead and make history. You will be forever the favoured one if you do this job well.

Orient star: I am so proud of all my sister stars. They have been doing selfless service and shining on their bright lights and helping generations of people on earth. I hope I can do such a service to mankind. But I’m sure God has plans for me…afterall he created me in His likeness. I will do as God plans. And if I have to save a wayward peasant, then I shall do so willingly.

[message][A baby is born in a stable. And some peasants and three wise men need to find the way.]

Star 2: Now, who wants to do this job?

Star 5: Show the way to peasants? No way…im waiting for a better job…If I do this job, it’ll look so bad on my resumé!!! Imagine…a baby being born in a stable!!! Who does that nowadays? Must be a real pauper…

Star 6: Yeah!!! A little master nobody…not some prince or evn a rich man’s son. I suddenly remembered…I have to charge my power…my light is not giving any strength…so, im sorry, I cant help you out…

Star 7: You know, I feel that star O will do a brilliant job here..after all she has only guided peasants in her life…another couple of peasants won’t matter.

[Star 2 and 7 laugh.]

Star 2: Now now, don’t mock poor star O!!! Star O…what do you think? Do you think you can do this job? You won’t make mistakes?

Star O: no star 2, Ill be a good and proper shining star…I’ll shine as brigt as I can and Ill lead the peasants and the wise men to the baby… Ill make all of you proud of me. You’ll see…you’ll never find another star who will do this job so happily. I am so happy that you thinmill be good at this, I wont fail you.

Star 2: [sobering] Of course star O. im sure you’ll do a great job. Go ahead then….shine your little light as bright as you can…and lead those poor souls to the stable.

[all leave the stage. Stage darkens]

Star O: I have to shine my light now. I have to make it as bright as I possibly can. I have to show those poor peasants that the baby is born in astable. It doesn’t matter who the family is…whether they are rich or poor, kings or common…When I have a job, I have to do the best I can to shine as bright as I possibly can. Concentrate Star of the Orient!!! You can do this!!!

[Strains and a flicker of light begins and by the time the star reaches the stable, it begins to shine very very brightly.]

[All the stars come out]

All: What is that light? Why is it shining brighter than all of us? Who can it be?

Who is that baby? It must be someone very very powerful and very very important….because none of us could shine like that.

[Stage darkens and only the starlight glows]

Peasants and the wise men arrive and they genuflect before the king.

[carol plays]
